Geoffrey of Monmouth
(c. 1100 – c. 1155)

Latin Galfridus Monemutensis, Welsh Gruffudd ap Arthur or Sieffre o Fynwy; spent most of his life as an Augustinian canon in Oxford; wrote in Latin, claiming to be translating from Welsh. His works introduced non-Welsh speakers to the legend of King Arthur and remained influential into early modern times, although their historical accuracy was questioned as early as 1190 by William of Newburgh
